Head of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, LEVEL 2, Permanent, full-time

Fáilte Ireland invites applications for the position of Head of Corporate Communications & Public Affairs.

The role will report to the Director of Demand Development. There will be a Hybrid work model with the office location based in Fáilte Ireland, 88-95 Amiens Street, Dublin 1.

Job Purpose

This role leads across the entire function of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs. Leading a team, the successful candidate will oversee all internal and external communications for the organisation including the development and implementation of a communications strategy as well as a diverse range business and public affairs engagement.

The successful candidate’s remit includes the areas of corporate communications and reputation management, media relations, key external stakeholder engagement, digital communications and public affairs, as well as internal communications.

In creating and successfully implementing Fáilte Ireland’s Corporate Communications & Public Affairs Strategy, the successful candidate will demonstrate strategic communications and public affairs leadership and provide senior level communications advice and inputs to the work of other divisions as required.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day running of the team. The team consists of three sub-teams: Corporate Communications, Public Affairs and Internal Communications. The purpose of the team is to maximise the outreach and dissemination of information to media, policymakers, Members of the Oireachtas, State Agencies, Advocacy Groups, staff and other stakeholders on the varied programmes of activity being undertaken by Fáilte Ireland teams and the positive impact of that activity on the sustainability of the tourism industry and viability of businesses, the national and regional economy, policymaking and research.
  • Successfully manage and motivate a highly skilled team of experts in the delivery of Fáilte Ireland Corporate Communications and Public Affairs strategy by devising work plans, outlining and implementing processes and ways of working, co-ordinating the team, planning and managing resources and workload.
  • Act as a communications liaison and advisor to senior Fáilte Ireland colleagues, Departmental team and wider stakeholders, providing support and guidance to deliver a robust corporate communications and parliamentary affairs function for the organisation.
  • Report on Corporate Communications, Public Affairs and Internal Communications activity, providing actionable insights that will support the team to meet and exceed its annual KPIs.
  • Lead the development of the division’s workplans and strategy, provide leadership and guidance across the organisation on corporate and parliamentary issues and messaging, agree communications plans and approaches and contribute to the preparation of briefing material for senior management.
  • Manage the delivery of Fáilte Ireland’s obligations under the Freedom of Information Act as part of its comprehensive Parliamentary Affairs function.
  • Working with other divisions across the organisation, lead the strategy and delivery of the internal communications team, providing relevant, timely and useful information and supports to our staff across the country.
  • Fulfil other duties as required, and participate as a full member of the Fáilte Ireland Leadership Team.

Resource Management

  • Set clear goals for the team that are aligned to the operational plan and corporate obligations.
  • Effective management of team resources and allocation of appropriate resources and budgets to projects and tasks.
  • Manage all staff reporting to the position, support and motivate them to maximise their developmental potential.
  • Manage internal staff training relevant to the successful delivery of the corporate communications and public affairs strategy.

Carry out all other duties as required and participate as a full member of the Corporate Communications & Public Affairs team by supporting different work projects, as required, from time to time.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Depth and breadth of experience working in a Corporate Communications environment and a clear understanding of the role of corporate communications and public affairs.
  • Experience managing a sizeable high performing team, managing resources, budgets and work plans.
  • A clear understanding of the media landscape, modern media and communications environment and latest trends
  • Demonstrable experience of corporate brand and reputation management.

In order to be eligible to apply for this role you must have / demonstrate in your application form the following

  • At least 8 years’ experience working in a Communications/Public Affairs or related field role.
  • Knowledge of, and an interest in, Parliamentary and Government Affairs
  • Strong leadership skills with people management experience with the ability to influence at a very high level.
  • Ability to engage and influence stakeholders at a senior level, especially C-Suite at an internal and external level.

Qualifications/Mandatory Training

  • A professional qualification (minimum Level 8 under the QQI Framework) in a related discipline is essential.

Desirable Criteria

  • Media relations experience.
  • Experience in Digital Communications including, but not limited to, social media, email marketing, and websites.
  • Broad knowledge of the tourism industry and Fáilte Ireland’s remit as the National Tourism Development Authority.

Salary, Key Benefits & Location

Salary: €97,983 – €124,376* per anum

*This role will be filled in line with Public Pay Policy at Point 1 of the relevant Salary Scale unless the successful candidate is appointed from an existing public sector role
